RHS Rosemoor Flower Show
We were delighted to be invited to the first ever RHS Rosemoor Flower Show – people so often forget that we’ve got this gem in Devon. There are only four RHS gardens (soon to be five), and we’ve got one of them, right here in Devon! How brilliant is that?
We had a wonderful weekend: great garden, superb staff and just the most brilliant, enthusiastic visitors.
Rosemoor is surrounded by woodland, along the bottom of a valley – giving it a truly magical atmosphere. However, that same magic presents the gardeners with a myriad of issues. Who said gardening was easy? Acidic, clay soil anyone? How about large amounts of rainfall? You can read all about this very special garden, and all the hard work that goes into making it so, here.
It’s a bit of a schlep up to Great Torrington from Ashburton, but we did get to see the brooding Cosdon Beacon in all weathers, and this rather marvellous field of traditional hayricks…
we even had the luck of a double rainbow when we went up to set up our stand…
The nurseries and displays were second to none, and the gardens were a perfect backdrop for the weekend. We were opposite our new pals, Mud Mountain and their rather special terracotta pots… we even had time for a little yarn bombing!
Kim got to chat to Jon Webster, the curator at Rosemoor, who was very present throughout the weekend. We even managed to leave him with lots of twoolly goodness to trial in the gardens.
A huge thanks to Diana and the whole team who did such a sterling job in tricky weather conditions! Everyone we spoke to had great feedback to offer and had a great time, us gardeners are hardy types.
