It’s the Campaign for Wool’s Wool Week 2021 – although this year it’s running for the whole of October. It’s a great time of year to be talking about wool. The days are beginning to shorten and the temperatures are beginning to decrease. Wool blankets are hauled out of cupboards and chests and back onto laps and sofas. Well-worn woolly sweaters are given a shake and put on because it’s ‘not really coat weather yet’. There’s an argument about the thermostat or the log burner. It’s also the time of year for the annual wool clip collection. All twool products are fully traceable and made right here in the UK keeping them environmentally friendly and truly sustainable. A woolly idea that turned into a household name

We have processed 12 tonnes of wool this year. 12 tonnes. That is approx 3 hippos! That’s a lot of wool. And all of it has gone on to make our range of sustainable products. From humble essential garden twine to hard-wearing dog leads! For us, it is all about wool use, giving a route to market for farmers and adding value to wool. twool was never about an exclusive product; it is for all to access and we needed retailer stockists to achieve that. B&Q Gardening are now also onboard taking twool into urban environments where you might not find garden centres.

Why Wool?

Wool is naturally water repellent making it a perfect textile for use in the garden and around the home. It has a high tensile strength meaning it only gets stronger when twisted and pulled. Wool is a natural product so contains no harmful manmade properties, none of those plastic pollutants thank you very much! It is renewable and biodegradable: sheep eat, shear, repeat.

Wool also contains nitrogen that is great for the soil. As wool biodegrades this nitrogen is released to enrich the soil. Once you’ve finished with your twool twine, throw it on the compost heap to enrich your soil for future growing. The truth is that while technology and manmade materials have advanced us, you cannot recreate or beat the natural winning formula of wool. This wool week 2021, choose wool.
