Widecombe, Whiteface, Winning…
September arrived! And boy, didn’t it make it’s mark. The best thing about September? Widecombe Fair! It’s a great country show on the second Tuesday of September, nestled in the moorland village of Widecombe. It’s been going for over 150 years now, and still very much a fixture of the local farming events calendar.
We left the rain behind us as we drove towards the sun, just shining off the tower of the church…
Whiteface and Widecombe have a long history (you can read more about it, here) and twool are always found in the field down by the sheep showcasing the full range of rare-breed Whiteface wool products.
We had a great view throughout the day, particularly of these two bookends
It’s a great place to catch up on all the news, chat with our farmers and meet up with old pals. There’s also a wonderful range of local food and drink on offer, as well as live music.

In the main ring this year, highlights included the Dartmoor Hill Pony Display Team as well as the brilliant Dartmoor Hawker. Whether you’re into traditional morris dancing, a tug-o-war or even vintage tractors and cars, there’s something for everyone at this traditional country fair.

It’s a real farmer’s fair – with sheep, horse and cattle all being judged.
The waiting for these Greyface Dartmoors paid off as they won!
And the Whiteface didn’t fare too badly either!
