Wool, Widecombe and Countryfile
What a fantastic week! It started with our annual clip collection – a crucial part of the Whiteface to twool story. Andrew arrived and with Charlotte in tow, Kim headed off to Clare Butcher’s farm to collect the first of this year’s clip.
We were joined by Adam Henson and the BBC Countryfile crew, when the wool’s this gorgeous it’d be a shame not to film it…
This is our 5th year collecting Whiteface Dartmoor fleece from around 32 small producers across Dartmoor. This helps gives farmers a route to market for their fleece that would otherwise struggle to sell on this small scale. For us, it’s so important to be able to catch up with our friends and take stock of the year.
Tuesday heralded the highlight of the Whiteface Dartmoor calendar, Widecombe Fair. The fair was started over 150 years ago for the annual sale of Whiteface Dartmoor sheep. The Whiteface Dartmoor Breeders Association were launching their new book to mark the 60th anniversary of the association. Written by Colin Pearse, Drifting Away into New Pastures, is a poignant and wonderfully narrated encyclopedia of Whiteface Dartmoor farming.
As usual, twool were right there, beside the sheep and the farmers. However, this year we were also joined by Adam and the Countryfile team.

For an holistic product like twool, there is an important message behind the scenes and we are so delighted that BBC Countryfile are as passionate as we are about utilising under used British wool in product innovation.
Marvellous for us, Dartmoor and the wonderful Whiteface Dartmoor sheep.
