There are 15 National Parks across the country – we’re so lucky being based in Devon as we’ve got 2! (Greedy!) Ok, ok, before we’re accused of spreading fake news, we know that Exmoor is mainly in Somerset. But we’re still blessed none the less, here are some of the reasons why…
The best thing about National Parks? They’re YOUR spaces, for you to do what you like with! Rock climbing, star gaze, camping, picnics, cycling, hikes, letterboxing, archeology, bird watching, kayaking, horse rides… from gentle strolls to Ten Tors, there isn’t really anything you *can’t* do with these breathtaking breathing spaces.
However, they’re also ancient landscapes with a rich heritage and history of their own. From grazing sheep to wild ponies, frolicking otters and every species of bat – it really is a haven for wildlife and habitats.
As you probably know, the now rare-breed Whiteface Dartmoor sheep, an ancient breed indigenous to the moor and part of our English heritage, forms the basis for our range of products. We’re doing all we can at twool to support this endangered species by finding uses for their fabulous lustre fleece.
To celebrate National Parks Week, we’re launching a very special Dartmoor dog lead. Inspired by Dartmoor colours, the twool Dartmoor braided dog lead is a blend of Whiteface Dartmoor and Hill Farm Project Scotch Blackface wool. Each lead is made in Devon and hand stitched with up-cycled leather from British leather goods manufactures. Durable for any outdoor conditions (moorland sheep are tough!) these leads are soft on hands for your comfort as well as being strong for control and safety when out walking.
Head over to Princetown on Saturday 29th July for the Dartmoor Summer Fair to celebrate the best of National Parks Week. You’ll be able to join in with all the Otter Spotter antics, meet artisan producers and pick up your new twool Dartmoor dog lead. All the info you need is here…
