Sustainable twool nets!
Chelsea Flower Show Finalist 2024 with the twool sustainable garden net! Our sustainable garden net is the first netting of its kind made from underused renewable British wool as an alternative to plastic net. It is versatile, strong and durable and is biodegradable. We have developed our nets using twool naked yarn: a blend of Whiteface Dartmoor wool and Zwartbles a natural-coloured wool. Blended together they give a beautiful granite look that is incredibly strong and complements planting.
twool nets can support sweet peas, beans, and peas as well as in the greenhouse and for general garden use. Stretched horizontally between supports, its natural colour will complement planting whilst giving full support to growing crops.
Ocean gardens the bigger picture, not just garden nets
Our garden nets form part of a broader environmental wool net project currently under research and development. In 2023, the University of Belfast and the UK Fisheries approached us to investigate sustainable alternative materials for ocean nets, environmental ocean and riverbank restoration and sea kelp farming using twool nets and rope. We have successfully grown and harvested sea kelp and seaweeds on our rope and nets currently deployed at sea.

So, from humble beginnings a simple garden twine, through to garden and ocean nets we have now managed to engage British manufacturing business partners to develop environmentally sustainable solutions for growing and environmental projects using wool to replace plastic.
