2020 Reflections
During an otherwise difficult year, nature expanded during the peace and quiet of the national lockdown. Nature seemed to take a deep breath and pause. Up and down the country people took to gardening for mental health and wellbeing. As we rapidly reach the end of this strange year, it’s time to take a few minutes to reflect.
You can’t beat the ‘magic’ of planting a seed in the spring and then with a little nurturing tender love and care, watching it grow right before your eyes. It’s proof that from small humble beginnings huge things can grow.
While lockdown and the restrictions were undoubtedly hard for everyone it was lovely to see people get creative with their green spaces and reap the mental health and wellness benefits from gardening and nature. According to the HTA (Horticultural Trade Association), there were almost 3 million more gardeners this year, with under 45s being the most rapidly growing age group.
Let’s hope that as we move forward into a new year that we reflect on the positive outcomes of 2020, and may 2021 see us continue to be kind to ourselves, each other and the environment.
